Biological and Physical Sciences New Data Management Policy

BPS Town Hall Title Slide

To increase scientific research throughput and the transparency of government funded research, NASA and the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) have issued new policies in the Scientific Information Policy (see below). To adhere to the new guidance, the Biological and Physical Sciences (BPS) Division recently released the Scientific Data Management Policy, which defines policies and provides guidelines for managing scientific data by programs and portfolios, projects, funded investigators, and data repositories. The policy was authored by NASA SMD BPS Division Open-Source Science Initiative (OSSI) Leads and Representatives.

On Thursday December 14th, BPS held a community town hall where Sylvain Costes, BPS OSSI Lead, presented an overview of the SMD OSSI, new policies and guidelines, and held a panel with BPS leadership to answer community questions. Application of this new policy will begin in January 2023 with newly funded research, although all existing funded research are encouraged to follow the policy.
