On Thursday, June 30th, GeneLab hosted the 2022 AWG Symposium from 10 am – 2:30 pm PT. This virtual event allowed the pubic an opportunity to view some exciting omics science stemming from the AWG community and was attended by 350 unique participants. The symposium was divided into morning and afternoon sessions, with the morning session containing opening remarks by GeneLab Project Scientist Jonathan Galazka and an inspiring keynote address from NASA Astronaut Kate Rubins. This was followed by invited speakers that were awarded the GeneLab Analytical Investigations Grant with all recipients focused on plant responses to the spaceflight environment. Next, the elected leads from each of the AWGs presented an update on the status of each of the groups. The afternoon session brought lightning talks and scientific presentations from AWG members representing all five groups (Plant, Microbes, Animal, Multi-Omics and ALSDA). During the event, attendees had an opportunity to sign-up for the AWGs which led to 45 new members to include early career scientists (undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students) and university professors.
