GeneLab’s New Nucleotide Sequencer and Analysis Platform

GeneLab’s new Illumina NovaSeq 6000 at NASA’s Ames Research Center.

GeneLab’s Sample Processing Lab Receives State-of-the-Art Nucleotide Sequencer

NASA’s GeneLab project received an Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing instrument. This state-of-the art sequencer can generate 3 trillion bases of sequencing data every two days (6 Tb of data), and will be used by GeneLab to maximize the data and knowledge generated from precious biological spaceflight experiments.

The project’s Sample Processing Lab successfully completed a RNAseq validation run on the high-throughput sequencer. Both iSeq100 and NovaSeq 6000 workflows were successful in producing high-quality raw sequencing data. These data will be analyzed by GeneLab’s Data Processing team to generate processed RNAseq data from the space-relevant samples. Data generated with this machine will be available in the GeneLab Data Repository in the coming year.
